Why International Inclusivity Conference ?
The conference will focus on the theme of inclusive education. By inclusive education we understand experiences of students with physical and learning disabilities, and neurodevelopmental conditions and its main goal is to counteract discrimination and exclusion of these groups of students. Current debates on inclusive education move beyond a single axis of analysis to draw on the notion of intersectionality whereby the notion of disability is conceptualized in conjunction with issues of race, socioeconomic background, gender and lived experiences. Inclusivity in education involves developing specific policies aimed at removal of barriers to the presence, participation, and achievement of all students, with specific targeted approaches to prevent exclusion and marginalization in education. It is also about creating learning environment that prioritizes students’ agency and empowerment. The conference will bring together academics and practitioners whose research and/or practice relate to inclusivity in education. We welcome posters and oral presentations on theoretical approaches to diversity and inclusivity in education, design, specific implementation strategies, and policy development. This might include a discussion of different aspects of inclusive education, including teaching and curriculum, assessment and feedback methods, co-design and student voice in course development, and assistive technology. This list is not exhaustive, and we are open to different suggestions. We are particularly interested in the following themes:
- Supporting Neurodiversity in the classroom.
- Culturally Inclusive Teaching
- Supporting seen and unseen disabilities in HEA
The poster session will be an interactive and engaging part of the conference, where you will have the opportunity to present your research to a diverse audience, receive feedback, and exchange ideas. This will involve physical posters, displayed for the entirety of the conference. We will also select two participants from each of the categories above to present their posters in an oral presentation session. The format of the session will be 10 minutes presentation followed by 5 minutes questions and answers. Moreover, the field of global education, like any sector, must be proactive in building a diverse workforce and fostering inclusive environments in institutions, organisations, and communities. By creating a profession that reflects the diversity of society, we better serve our students and contribute to stronger, more inclusive communities. Each year, the International Inclusivity Conference gathers thought leaders, educators, and professionals to explore the challenges and opportunities presented by diversity, equity, and inclusion in global education and cultural exchange. The conference also provides a platform for professionals from various sectors to collaborate, share best practices, and develop innovative strategies for advancing inclusivity and equity of professionals and encouraging an inclusive and welcoming environment in workplaces, associations, and postsecondary educational establishments. Our profession and those who work in it ought to make an effort to represent the wide range of areas we live in and the kids we serve.
